Job summary

Academics is seeking a Mental Health Teaching Assistant in Crawley, West Sussex. The role supports students with SEMH/MLD in a specialist setting, offering 1:1 and small group assistance and close collaboration with Therapists and Counsellors.

The post runs Monday to Friday, 08:30–15:30, term-time only, with on-site training and CPD provided. The salary is paid per day (£93–£105) and requires eligibility to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check.

Qualifications

  • Enhanced DBS (or overseas police check) required.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and working with SEMH/MLD.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted and effective relationships with the pupils
  • Willing to do 1:1 and small group support and work with pupils
  • Follow the safeguarding guidelines and implement them in the classroom
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be a good listener with a compassionate and caring approach
  • Attend staff meetings and complete relevant CPD
  • Able to commute to Crawley

This specialist secondary school in Crawley is looking for a dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join the team. The setting caters for young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and/or Autism Spectrum conditions. These pupils may have experienced disrupted education, school refusal, anxiety or exclusion, find mainstream setting overwhelming, need small groups, high adult consistency and trusted relationships to succeed.

Job role and responsibilities for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant:

Start date October or ASAP, trial days taking place to ensure the role and school is right for you
Fantastic on-site training, support and CPD is provided to ensure safeguarding of all pupils
Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, term time only
93- 105 per day
You MUST have right to work in the UK in order to apply - no Visa sponsorship

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
