Our Organisation

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is a Ngāti Kahungunu mandated, kaupapa Māori, values-based health and social services organisation. We serve whānau across the East Coast of the North Island, from Māhia to Remutaka. For over 35 years, we’ve supported our communities with health, social, education, and community development services.

The Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Mental Health Support Worker to join our Hiwa-i-te-Rangi team — a multidisciplinary group of registered mental health practitioners and mental health support workers. Together, we work alongside whānau experiencing low to moderate mental health needs, providing holistic, practical, and mana-enhancing support.

In this role, you will walk alongside whānau on their hauora journeys, supporting them to set goals, remove barriers, and build wellness and independence in ways that reflect their aspirations and tikanga. You’ll also be part of a strong, integrated team that reflects kaupapa Māori values in all aspects of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with whānau to create and implement wellness plans
  • Support whānau with access to wider services within the organisation
  • Provide practical support for immediate needs and long-term aspirations
  • Work collaboratively within an integrated team to provide wraparound care

What We’re Looking For

You will bring a genuine passion for whānau ora and be someone who can work effectively with whānau from all walks of life. Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • A Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in the mental health and wellbeing space
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, te ao Māori and te reo Māori
  • Confidence and compassion to navigate complex whānau situations
  • The ability to remain calm and grounded in times of conflict or crisis
