We have a fantastic opportunity for a Mental Health Support Worker to join the Mental Health team at HMP Preston, a Category B male prison in Preston city centre with capacity of around 750. This role involves working across inpatients and the wings, looking after mental health patients in a challenging, yet rewarding and supportive environment.

Hours: This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, with a variety of shifts between Monday and Sunday. The role involves working every other weekend. You will work on a weekly rota between 07:30 – 20:30.

Salary: £24,669 – £28,690 per annum, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As our Mental Health Support Worker, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Work with mental health patients across the wings and the inpatients unit, caring for patients with severe mental health issues and personality disorders
  • Be a key part of the nursing team — assist nurses and report back on findings and assessments
  • Be responsible for venepuncture
  • Carry out physical care as necessary
  • Ensure continuity of care for all patients and deliver outstanding care at all times
  • Contribute to and implement care packages, assist with health promotion, wellbeing and clinics
