Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of young adults facing homelessness? Join our dynamic team as a Mental Health Support Worker in Depaul UK, where you will play a vital role in supporting and empowering individuals on their journey towards independence.

About Us:

Role Overview:

Our service at Camden is an innovative specialist supported accommodation service for young people with mental health and complex needs. The service is part of Camden Council’s Young People’s Pathway that collaborates intensively with CAMHS, the 16+ team, the YOS, and other services working to support the young people.

As Mental Health Support Worker, you will be part of the team responsible for the effective and safe running of the project on a day-to-day basis, including undertaking a key work role for individual young people as part of a multi-agency team.

You will be responsible for a small caseload of complex needs clients, as well as share responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all clients, volunteers, and staff in the service. You will lead on the assessment of clients and creatively engage them, thereby giving them personalized support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients in the service at all times, including using safeguarding and emergency alert procedures as applicable.
  • Build positive relationships with all young people in the service to provide effective support.
  • Proactively develop and implement SMART outcomes-based support plans for your key clients.
  • Lead on risk and needs assessment for your key clients and contribute to ongoing needs and risk assessment of other clients in the service.
  • Using a trauma-informed approach, ensure the health and safety of the environment for clients, staff, visitors, and volunteers through regular checks and reporting.

Please note that this job opportunity is offered as a full-time (37.5 hours a week), permanent role.

What We Are Looking For – Person Specification:

  • A relevant qualification, for example in psychology, counselling, social work, mental health, and/or significant experience of working with young people with complex needs.
  • Experience of dealing with complex and difficult situations in relation to people.
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm for a high level of contact with clients on a day-to-day basis and a non-judgmental approach to working with people with complex needs.
  • Active Listening: Ability to listen attentively to the needs and concerns of clients and provide appropriate support and guidance.
  • Empathy and Compassion: Ability to understand and connect with the challenges faced by youth experiencing homelessness and mental distress and provide emotional support.
