Job description

Are you passionate about supporting the mental health and well-being of young people? Do you want to make a real difference in a dynamic school environment?

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Mental Health Support Assistant to join our pastoral and inclusion team to support the partnership schools’ we have in Bristol or South Gloucestershire. You will work closely with students, staff, and external professionals to provide early intervention, ongoing emotional support, and promote a positive mental health culture within our school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group emotional support to students experiencing mental health or well-being challenges.
  • Work alongside pastoral staff, SENCOs, and safeguarding leads to identify students in need of support.
  • Help implement individual support plans and monitor student progress and well-being.
  • Facilitate mental health awareness activities and promote strategies for resilience and self-care.
  • Act as a trusted adult and first point of contact for students struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, or other concerns.
  • Support referrals to external agencies where appropriate and maintain accurate, confidential records.

The successful educator will have the following:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or mental health setting.
  • Understanding of issues affecting adolescent mental health, including trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, non-judgmental, and supportive in challenging situations.
  • A proactive, team-oriented attitude with a passion for making a difference.

Desirable: Mental health first aid training, relevant qualifications (e.g. psychology, counselling, youth work), or experience with safeguarding and SEND.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
