Here at Lifeways in Leek, we are looking for Support Workers to join our fantastic team. Ideally, you will have previous experience in Care/Support Work; however, if you are new to the role and have a passion for helping others to lead their most independent lives, then Lifeways can offer you excellent training and ongoing support to enable you to enjoy a rewarding career with us.

At this service, we have a range of male and female service users ranging from 26-56 years old. All our service users have a primary diagnosis of a mental health condition, but some may also have secondary diagnoses. We have service users who have paranoid schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, emotionally unstable personality disorder, bipolar disorder, substance and alcohol misuse, and autism.

Our service users have their own tenancies for their flats. They don’t have 1-1 hours; support is provided as and when required. Support ranges from supervising medication, assistance with living skills, making and attending appointments, support into the community, shopping, life skills, setting up and paying bills, and attending local activities like college, arts and crafts groups, and volunteering. In the mental health division, we don’t do tasks for our service users; we support them to complete tasks. Our service users enjoy music, walking, going on days out, arts and crafts, and all love pets; we have pets in service, including dogs, cats, birds, and fish.

Staff who would work well here need to be resilient and adaptable, as one day is never the same as the other. They should be active listeners, approachable and friendly, have good boundaries, and work as a team with a consistent approach, as our service users will pick up on this straight away and could cause team splitting. They must be able to manage stressful situations and be willing to support people who may be under the influence of drugs.
