Mental Health Practitioner to Students within Higher Education
Manchester, Fulltime & Permanent Role
Hybrid Working Monday - Friday 9-5.30pm, 3 days on campus, 2 days from home

Do you have experience supporting students and adults with mental health? Are you calm, compassionate, and reassuring in crises? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!

About the role: As a Mental Health Practitioner, you will collaborate with the welfare, learning support, and student relations teams to deliver and develop services including individual support sessions, managing caseloads, hosting events, and providing professional advice for staff and students. You will handle referrals and curate psycho-educational resources.

You will manage your own caseload, providing person-centered, evidence-based interventions to support student wellbeing and engagement. Managing crisis situations and safeguarding students according to statutory guidance is also essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing a caseload of students with mental health difficulties or disabilities, delivering therapeutic interventions both in person and remotely, and coordinating support services.
  2. Supporting students during key transition periods like pre-entry, suspension, and placements.
  3. Establishing relationships with external providers (GPs, mental health services, social care) to facilitate access to medical support.
  4. Supporting welfare services via campus, phone, or email.
  5. Providing urgent triage, assessments, and risk management for students in crisis, with appropriate referrals.
  6. Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments and guiding students to additional support services.

Qualifications and experience required:
