Job summary

Pulse Healthcare is seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist for an all-female older adult mental health inpatient ward in Leeds. This locum role runs 3 months from ASAP, with hours 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (potentially part-time for some candidates). Start date ASAP, subject to checks.

Your assignment will focus on assessment, recovery, discharge planning and promoting independence and meaningful engagement in daily activities for adults 65+. Collaborative MDT work is essential.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
• Band 6 OT experience.
• Experience in mental health services.
• Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and care planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of risk management, safeguarding and discharge processes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions within an acute older adult mental health inpatient service.
• Assess functional abilities, cognition, mood and occupational performance to inform treatment planning.
• Develop and implement person-centred care plans that promote recovery and independence.
• Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities.
• Support discharge planning and safe transitions of care.
• Work within a multidisciplinary team including nursing, psychology, psychiatry and social care.
• Complete risk assessments and manage clinical risks as required.
• Maintain accurate records and provide reports as needed.
• Enable patients to maximise independence and meaningful occupation.

Our client is seeking an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join their dedicated multidisciplinary team on an all-female assessment and admission ward for adults aged 65 and over experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within an inpatient mental health setting, supporting older adults through assessment, recovery, and discharge planning while promoting independence, wellbeing, and meaningful engagement in daily activities.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
• Previous experience working as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist or equivalent.
• Experience within mental health services
• Strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and care planning skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of risk management, safeguarding, and discharge processes.
