Make a real difference in specialist mental health care by joining Fern Ward, a 10-bed inpatient service at Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal. We support women of working age with emotional regulation difficulties, complex trauma histories, and high-risk behaviours including self-harm and suicidal ideation. Our care is guided by Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and we offer a psychologically-informed, trauma-sensitive, and highly reflective working environment.

We’re looking for Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) who are passionate, resilient, and committed to delivering relational, recovery-focused care. Job Purpose

The role of the Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) Staff Nurse is to work as an effective member of the Multi-Disciplinary team. Promote the best interests of the clients and carers and ensure that prescribed nursing care is effectively implemented. Responsible for maintaining a safe care environment. Exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments and work within the scope of professional practice. Support the generalisation of DBT skills into daily ward life and promote a therapeutic milieu aligned with DBT principles. Actively engage in DBT-informed communication, de-escalation, and coaching

KeyResponsibilities

  • Deliver safe, patient-centred care within a structured nursing framework.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to assess, plan, and review individualised care plans.
  • Monitor patient progress through accurate observation, documentation, and clinical judgment.
  • Respond effectively to changes in patient condition and escalate as needed.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive, holistic care.
  • Act as nurse in charge when required, prioritising and delegating tasks appropriately.
  • Support and mentor new staff, including acting as a preceptor for newly qualified nurses.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain professional, compassionate communication with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding, medication, legal, and regulatory standards (MHA, MCA, DoLS, NMC, Priory policies).

Knowledge / Education / Skills

  • Qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), with 6-12 months post registration.
  • Experience with active NMC Registration and completed preceptorship programme.
  • Knowledge of NMC guidelines, requests and professional practices.
  • Evidence of post registration continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality.
  • Ability to develop and use flexible and innovative approaches to practise
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in therapeutic models such as DBT. Prior experience not necessary.
