Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced mental health professional to take on a 12-month secondment or fixed-term post as a job share, with our established multi-disciplinary Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) based at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH).

MHLT provides the Core24 service at JPUH for ages 16 and over. The multidisciplinary team includes Mental Health Practitioners (Nurses/Social Workers), Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, and Admin staff.

Main duties of the job

MHLT works with patients with both mental health needs and complex physical health presentations. The team accepts referrals from the Emergency Department and inpatient ward areas. You will work alongside our existing leadership team to line manage the team and need to be confident with day-to-day operational management, supporting JPUH colleagues and HR processes. There is a requirement to regularly review the team's performance and data and report into the wider care group.

About us

Here at NSFT, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly, and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work, and need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established professional networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

Why Norfolk and Suffolk? The people here are warm and welcoming, you'll never be far from the beautiful coastline or Broads National Park. We're an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns, and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops, and theatres. We have excellent shopping, dining options, top-ranking schools, and affordable house prices.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated, forward-thinking individual who wants to be part of creating excellence and thrives in a stimulating, high-pressure, strongly supported environment. You will need to carry out complex risk assessments daily and demonstrate expert skills and knowledge in assessing patients with complex needs and risks. Confidence in following safeguarding referral processes and working alongside external partners such as JPUH, Police, NSFT inpatient and community teams, NCC, NNUH, QEH, Wellbeing, MIND, and others to establish robust care packages is essential.

The Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) aspires to clinical, teaching, and research excellence. We are a dynamic, rapidly developing, and evolving service covering service users aged 16 and over in a busy 500-bed general hospital.

The MHLT acts as the interface between physical and mental health within JPUH and the wider NSFT.
