Overview

Leader Education are recruiting a Mental Health/Behaviour Support Classroom Assistant to work at a school in South Shields specialising in supporting students aged 5-16 years old with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Students in this school may have been permanently excluded from their past school and may present some challenging behaviours, so the ideal candidate will have some experience working alongside children with SEMH needs and behavioural problems. This school emphasises motivating their students to ensure an engaging curriculum and a successful transition into the next stage of their lives.

The latest Ofsted report for this school was rated "Good" with them continuing to deliver an inspiring curriculum and school environment for students underlying needs.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30pm and this is a long-term position, subject to a successful trial.

Qualifications
  • An enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
  • Some experience with children or young people that exhibit Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) or students that present challenging behaviour
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, compassionate personality and the ability to support the students in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children
  • Adaptability and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students
