An outstanding specialist school for children with Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs located in Reading, Berkshire, is seeking a bright and enthusiastic Graduate to work as a SEN Teaching Assistant supporting children with behavioural and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate will have qualifications in Psychology, Counselling, or Criminology, but other subjects will also be considered. Relevant experience is also a plus.
The role is full-time, starting ASAP or in September 2023, and involves working with children aged 4 to 11, providing consistent, child-centred support to ensure their well-being and development. Experience in similar roles is desirable but not essential. Graduates from related fields will also be considered.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Psychology graduates to work alongside on-site therapists and psychologists, receive mentorship, shadow sessions, and gain invaluable experience working with SEN and mental health issues. It is ideal for aspiring educational or occupational psychologists, therapeutic support workers, or SEN teachers.
The school is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant who is enthusiastic, proactive, adaptable, and able to use their initiative. Resilience and confidence in managing challenging behaviour are desirable qualities.
The children in this school have complex needs, primarily SEMH, and require a support worker who is understanding, open-minded, and ready for a challenge. Relevant experience can include working with SEN children or adults in any setting, including personal experience with family. Level 3 qualifications or higher are required; a degree is highly desirable.
