Job description

Men's & Women's Coaches or Player Coaches

Woking Hockey Club Woking

Location: Woking HC, Surrey, UK
Commitment: 1 - 2 Seasons
Sessions: 1-2 Coaches Sessions, Plus Saturdays (All training times and expectations can be confirmed on application). Extra coaching available for the candidates where required.

We are seeking a passionate, performance-focused Coach/Player-Coach to join our growing club and help lead our squads to the next level. The successful candidate will play a key role in both playing and coaching, helping shape the direction of our team on and off the pitch with assistance from our comprehensive new strategy and ethos document.

What We’re Looking For:

  1. Coaching & Leadership:
    • Lead on selections for your team with assistance from captains or nominated leadership players.
    • Drive a performance-focused squad with a clear, shared set of values and behaviours.
    • Apply advanced tactical understanding in both match days and training sessions.
    • Support and help design high-quality weekly session plans (Tues & Thurs evenings).
    • Attend all Saturday league fixtures and lead the team with a competitive edge.
  2. Performance & Development:
    • Use VEO match footage to create clips, analyse performance, and provide constructive feedback.
    • Support the development of younger players and help them progress within the club.
    • Collaborate with all squads to align player development and movement across teams.
    • Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that attracts and retains players.
    • Positively contribute to the wider club community — including social events, coaching, fundraising, and umpiring support.
    • Integrate with the men's and women's section and encourage unity across all teams.

What You’ll Need:

  • England Hockey UKCC Level 2, FIH Level 2 or higher — or significant high-level playing experience.
  • Track record of positive and successful coaching delivery.
  • Firm but fair leadership style with strong people skills.
  • Willingness to gain a First Aid Certificate and DBS check.
  • Comfortable using VEO or willing to learn.
