Job summary

Futurebuild Recruitment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter for hands-on work on water treatment sites. You will install, maintain and modify mechanical equipment, pumps, valves and pipework across projects.

The role requires reading drawings, fault finding and completing site documentation. A strong commitment to safety and working as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential. The position offers a stable long-term assignment with overtime opportunities and a supportive site team.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter.
  • Experience in water treatment, wastewater or utilities sector.
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Strong fitting and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with installation, maintenance and commissioning.
  • Good understanding of site health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment across water treatment sites.
  • Install and modify mechanical pipework, pumps and valves.
  • Assemble and fit process plant components.
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and troubleshoot issues.
  • Work from drawings, specifications and site instructions.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities.
  • Complete site documentation and report defects.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter with a background in water treatment and wastewater projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and modification of mechanical equipment across water treatment sites. This is a hands‑on position suited to a Mechanical Fitter who is comfortable working around pumps, valves, pipework and process equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment across water treatment sites.
  • Installation and modification of mechanical pipework, pumps, valves and associated equipment.
  • Mechanical assembly and fitting of process plant.
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Fault finding and diagnosing mechanical issues.
  • Working from engineering drawings, specifications and site instructions.
  • Supporting testing and commissioning activities.
  • Carrying out mechanical upgrades and refurbishment works.
  • Working alongside Mechanical Engineers, Electricians, Site Managers and other trades.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.
  • Completing relevant site documentation and reporting any issues or defects.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
Experience Required
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter.
  • Previous experience working within the water treatment, wastewater or utilities sector.
  • Experience working with pumps, valves, pipework and mechanical process equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with installation, maintenance and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • Good understanding of site health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team.
