ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy delivering solutions across Aeronautics, Defence, Energy and more. This role provides technical oversight to fabrication suppliers, guiding welding and fabrication activities while ensuring compliance with engineering requirements and quality standards.

You will work as the technical interface between engineering, quality and suppliers to drive manufacturing excellence, review WPS/PQR, support ITPs and root-cause investigations, and help

Qualifications

• Significant experience in fabrication and welding within heavy engineering or similarly regulated environments.
• Experience supporting fabrication suppliers or manufacturing subcontractors.
• Involvement in inspection and testing activities and reviewing technical docs.
• Knowledge of welding codes and standards; able to interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to fabrication suppliers throughout manufacturing activities.
• Review welding procedures and fabrication documents for compliance.
• Support resolution of production and fabrication issues; participate in readiness reviews.
• Assist on ITPs and NDT coordination; act as technical focal point for suppliers.
• Investigate root causes of weld defects and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

he PTLS will provide technical oversight and manufacturing support to fabrication suppliers, ensuring that fabrication, welding, inspection and testing activities are performed in accordance with engineering requirements, quality standards and project objectives.

The successful candidate will act as the technical interface between engineering, quality, project teams and suppliers, driving manufacturing excellence and resolving production challenges throughout the fabrication lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Fabrication & Manufacturing Support

• Provide technical support to fabrication suppliers throughout manufacturing activities.
• Review and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation.
• Support the resolution of production and fabrication issues.
• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company, customer and industry requirements.
• Participate in manufacturing readiness reviews and technical assessments.
• Provide guidance on welding processes and fabrication techniques.
• Review and assess Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welder Qualifications.
• Advise suppliers on welding best practices and process improvements.
• Support root cause investigations relating to weld defects and non-conformances.
• Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes and standards.

Inspection & Testing

• Support inspection and test planning activities.
• Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Liaise with Quality teams regarding NDT requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Support investigations and corrective actions for quality issues.
• Ensure inspection and testing activities meet contractual and technical requirements.
• Act as the technical focal point for fabrication suppliers.
• Conduct supplier technical reviews and audits when required.
• Monitor supplier performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Support supplier development initiatives and knowledge sharing.

Technical Problem Solving

• Analyse manufacturing issues and develop practical solutions.
• Conduct root cause analysis for technical and quality concerns.
• Provide technical recommendations based on engineering principles and manufacturing best practice.
• Present technical findings and improvement proposals to stakeholders.

Required Skills:

• Significant experience in fabrication and welding within heavy engineering, defence, nuclear, energy, oil & gas or similar regulated industries.
• Experience supporting fabrication suppliers or manufacturing subcontractors.
• Proven involvement in inspection and testing activities.
• Experience reviewing technical manufacturing documentation.
• Strong background in resolving fabrication and welding-related issues.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.

Welding qualification, CSWIP certification or equivalent highly desirable.

• Experience within regulated industries.
• Knowledge of international fabrication and welding standards.
• Continuous improvement and lean manufacturing knowledge.
