Job summary

ALTEN LTD - UK is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Industrialisation Engineer to transition product designs into efficient manufacturing processes, with a focus on manufacturability, DFMEA, PFMEA and DFMs. The role requires aerospace experience and close collaboration with design teams.

The position is based on-site in Broughton, with a full on-site working arrangement and a clearable security posture. The candidate should have a mid-level experience and a strong background in manufacturing

Qualifications

• Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrialisation Engineering, Production Engineering, or a similar discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of: DFMEA, PFMEA, Design for Manufacture (DFM), engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, notes, dimensions, and tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Support industrialisation activities by validating designs for manufacturability and assembly.
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing and assembly abnormalities including one-way assembly breakdowns, rib clashes, and design/assembly issues.
• Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure feasibility from industrial and manufacturing perspectives.
• Review engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and manufacturing specs.
• Participate in DFMEA and PFMEA activities and drive improvements.
• Assess tooling requirements and support redesigns to optimise production.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Industrialisation Engineer to support the successful transition of product designs into manufacturing. This position requires a strong understanding of design validation, manufacturing feasibility, and industrialisation processes, working closely with design teams to ensure products can be manufactured efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support industrialisation activities by validating designs for manufacturability and assembly.
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing and assembly abnormalities, including:
  • One-way assembly breakdowns
  • Rib clashes
  • Design and assembly-related issues
• Collaborate closely with design engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible from an industrial and manufacturing perspective.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, notes, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
• Participate in and contribute to Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities.
• Support Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assess tooling requirements and support redesign activities where necessary.
• Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) improvements to optimise production efficiency, quality, and cost.
• Provide manufacturing process expertise during product development and industrialisation phases.

Qualifications

Required Skills

• Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrialisation Engineering, Production Engineering, or a similar discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of:
  • DFMEA
  • PFMEA
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  • Engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing
  • Manufacturing validation activities
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, notes, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Good understanding of common manufacturing processes, including:
  • Drilling
  • Reaming
  • Spot facing
  • Machining and assembly processes
• Experience working collaboratively with design offices and engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Mandatory Aerospace experience is needed

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills

• Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) or industrialisation projects.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
