Meanwhile, Plymouth and Exeter are also both within a short drive to enjoy the culture, maritime history, and shopping experiences.

Job responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the provision of medicines on discharge, dispensing simple prescriptions on the ward.
  • Prioritise workload for the ward, oversee the process through the dispensary and ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure that additional medicines are not dispensed unnecessarily on discharge, e.g., by ascertaining if the patient has more supplies at home.
  • Manage an effective system to ensure the efficient and economic provision of stock medicines, avoiding unnecessary supply and, where possible, recycling any medicines that are no longer needed.
  • Where appropriate, provide a ward top-up service for controlled drugs and maintain associated records, in accordance with procedures.

  • Contribute to the training and development of new staff to ensure the continuation of best practice.
  • Participate in reviews of work methods and contribute to the development of new processes and systems to minimise risk and to ensure that services are improved continuously.
  • Achieve objectives agreed at Achievement Review in order to contribute effectively to the provision of pharmacy services that are continuously improved, and to ensure continuous personal and professional development.
  • Effectively, efficiently, and actively liaise with all relevant staff to ensure objectives in all key result areas are achieved.
