Overview

Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician – Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, Harrow Pharmacy team, based in Park Royal.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician to join our Harrow Pharmacy team at Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust based in Park Royal.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and professional knowledge and skills in both physical and mental healthcare services, working in both inpatient and community mental health team settings.

Main duties

You will need to demonstrate a person-centred approach and have effective interpersonal and organisational skills. Previous NHS Hospital pharmacy experience, including mental health, would be desirable. You will also be expected to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota, following a period of induction and training.

If you are successful, you will work in a supportive, friendly and forward-thinking environment. You will be encouraged and supported in your development and will provide medicines technical support for mental health services to sites such as in-patients, home treatment teams and community mental health teams.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Completion of a GPhC approved combined Pharmacy Technician qualification (QCF level 3 or above)
  • Current registration with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician (Those in the process of registering with the GPhC can apply. However, registration with the GPhC must be complete for employment to commence)
  • If qualified prior to 2020 - Completion of a recognised Medicines Optimisation training course
  • If qualified prior to 2020 - Completion of a recognised Final accuracy checking course
  • Practice supervisor qualification (or willing to work towards)
  • Completion of entry-level managerial and leadership training courses
Other
  • Current membership to APTUK (association of pharmacy technicians UK)
Experience
  • Significant hospital pharmacy experience (inclusive of base PTPT training site)
  • Portfolio demonstrating competency of previous and current pharmacy practice skills, knowledge, and CPD.
  • Education and training of pharmacy staff
  • Significant experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Experience of working within mental health services
  • Knowledge of psychotropic drug therapy
Skills
