Job description

BDCFT Acute Inpatient Services have funded new roles for pharmacy technicians to work on inpatient wards. Successful candidates will:

  • Administer medicines during medication rounds
  • Support admission and discharge medicines reconciliation
  • Provide medicines management and optimisation services to the wards
  • Contribute to the physical healthcare of inpatients

The postholder will collaborate with pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and assistants. Full training and support will be provided.

Key duties include:

  • Carrying out medication administration rounds
  • Screening patients on admission, liaising with GPs and healthcare providers to verify medication histories, and advising staff on discrepancies
  • Providing smoking cessation advice to inpatients
  • Identifying pharmaceutical issues during discharge planning and working with multidisciplinary teams to resolve them
  • Dispensing and accuracy checking prescriptions
  • Advising patients and carers
  • Supplying stock items to dispensaries and wards
  • Assessing patients' own medicines for inpatient use
  • Ensuring activities comply with departmental procedures
