Job description

Role Summary

You will work on medical communications projects that involve the detailed analysis and presentation of data from clinical trials, which are instrumental to the successful uptake of novel therapies.

Salary: £39,000 per annum

Benefits: Discretionary profit share bonuses paid twice per year, hybrid and flexible working options, generous holiday allowance, private medical insurance, critical illness cover, income protection, full funding for external training, and more.

Role type: Full-time, permanent

Start date: We are currently recruiting for start dates throughout 2026, and you will be asked to state your availability on your application form.

Location: This role is available in our Global Headquarters in Cambridge, as well as our Manchester, Bristol, and Edinburgh offices.

About the Role

Our Medical Writers work on a project‑by‑project basis, delivering medical communications materials that involve the detailed analysis and clear presentation of clinical trial data. These materials, including posters, slide decks and peer‑reviewed publications, are used directly by our clients to communicate with external stakeholders and play a key role in the successful uptake of novel therapies. Medical Writers typically work on several projects across different disease areas at any one time.

In this role, you will work within project teams alongside experienced colleagues, who provide one‑to‑one training on the technical aspects of the role, including project management and effective client communication. Delivering project work requires close collaboration with clients, and following a successful induction period, you will increasingly contribute to teleconferences and face‑to‑face meetings with external stakeholders.

Costello Medical is organised into service areas that each focus on specific medical communications and health economics services, or serve distinct sectors of the healthcare industry. In this role, you’ll join our Medical Communications service area, working within our Publications and/or Medical Affairs teams. When you join, you will be allocated a “home” team based on your interests, skills, as well as our current business needs.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Analysing clinical trial data and creating materials for a range of audiences and formats
  • Working closely with clients, including participating in teleconferences and face‑to‑face meetings
  • Supporting project management and client communication alongside experienced colleagues
  • Managing multiple projects across different disease areas simultaneously
  • Collaborating with teams across the company to develop a broad understanding of our service offerings and clients
Hybrid Working Policy

We believe that having face‑to‑face time in the office holds many benefits and is central to ensuring that the community we have created, where people have a workplace they belong to and feel part of, is never lost. Therefore, we offer flexible working arrangements that allow our colleagues who have passed probation to work from home up to half their time, measured across a 2‑week rolling period. During your probationary period (normally the first 6 months of the role), you will be able to work from home 1 day per week.

Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree‑level qualification in a scientific discipline (minimum 2.1 or equivalent)
  • An aptitude for, and experience of, planning and writing scientific documents (lab reports, dissertations, posters, or articles)
  • A self‑motivated and enthusiastic approach with a genuine interest in healthcare
  • An exceptional level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills
  • The ability to tailor communication styles to a variety of audiences
  • A proactive mindset and collaborative approach to working
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Benefits
  • A starting salary of £39,000 per annum, as well as a discretionary profit share bonus paid twice per year
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank and public holidays
  • Flexible working hours and the chance to work from home for up to half of your working time after probation
  • Private Medical Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection and Life Assurance
  • Paid study leave and funding for external qualifications
