Senior Medical Writer – Costello Medical
Role Summary
Costello Medical is expanding its Medical Communications team and seeks an experienced Senior Medical Writer to lead diverse projects, deliver high‑quality content, and manage client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee medical communications projects across publications and medical affairs, ensuring exceptional quality and timely delivery.
- Plan project work, allocate resources, and monitor progress to meet client expectations.
- Review junior colleagues’ work, provide constructive feedback, and maintain high standards of accuracy and clarity.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing strategic input at project initiation and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities to expand services within existing accounts and building strong client relationships.
- Take on additional responsibilities such as budgeting, project finance, and line‑management of interns as the role evolves.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in an agency setting, with a proven track record in medical communications (publications, medical affairs, or both).
- Excellent written English, scientific writing skills, and ability to tailor content to different audiences.
- Strong project management skills to deliver work within agreed timelines.
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data presentation.
- Technical knowledge to advise clients on content strategy and approach.
- Degree in a scientific discipline (minimum UK 2.1); acceptable specialisms include biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine and related fields.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality standards.
- Proven ability to build and sustain client relationships and deliver outstanding customer service under competing demands.
- Motivational leadership and capacity to support team development.
Location
This role is available at our Global Headquarters in Cambridge and at London, Manchester, and Bristol offices.
Working Arrangements
Hybrid working model: after probation you may work from home up to 50% of your time; during probation you can work from home up to 2 days per week.

- Base salary £50,000 – £55,000 per annum with discretionary profit‑share bonuses paid twice per year.
