Medical Secretary (with an interest in Data Quality)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Castle Medical Group as a Medical Secretary with a special interest in Data Quality work.
The role is 34 hours a week but this can be negotiated further with the right candidate.
Offering secretarial support for over 15,800 patients, applicants must be experienced, hardworking and proficient with IT. The role requires someone with a keen eye for detail who can work within the clinical systems to identify, process and correct data quality issues.

The Castle Medical Group is a CQC Outstanding practice made up of six GP partners, five salaried GPs, five Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a nursing team of eight supported by an experienced and enthusiastic administration team.
Job responsibilities
- Be proficient in the use of Emis Web
- Experience in creating spreadsheets and use of all Microsoft packages
- Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required
- Liaising with secondary care and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
- Managing all enquiries in an effective manner
- Accurately coding data on the clinical system into the patient record
- Communicate effectively by email, telephone, written and face to face communication
- To be able to design & run complex searches and prepare clinical information ready for audit and review by the clinical team, executive and wider practice team, on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Develop, implement and manage patient recall systems for all clinical disease areas and other appropriate conditions
- Manage and support health campaigns to increase patient uptake
- Assisting management with tasks relating to the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and Local Enhanced Services
- Undertake a variety of duties that are within the protocols set by the practice and that of any individual research study or opportunity
- Processing referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS)
- Answering incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the caller's request appropriately
- Managing all administrative queries as necessary
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE in Mathematics and English (C or above)
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong IT skills, including audio typing
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
