Medical Secretary - Trauma and Orthopaedics

To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretarial service to a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Middle Grade Doctors, and supporting teams within the T&O Department. To work collaboratively with other Medical Secretary colleagues to ensure clinically correspondence is produced and distributed designated timescales. The post holder will carry out his/her duties in such a way to make a direct positive contribution to the organisation. It is essential that the post holder should exercise initiative commensurate with the role and that confidentiality be maintained at all times.

  • Maintenance of Information
  • Secretarial Duties
  • Admissions
  • Manage the waiting list - sending for patients, pre-op, etc

Person Specification

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of NHS Administration procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrates an excellent understanding of Patient confidentiality
  • Exhibits good organisational skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in use of Patient Administration System (Oasis)
  • Previous NHS experience

Education and Qualification

  • RSA / OCR III in typewriting / word processing or equivalent
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics- grade C or above
  • Medical Secretary AMSPAR Diploma

Interests and Motivation

  • Willing to undertake training to meet the requirements of the role in an ever changing NHS
  • Evidence of researching position applied for

£26,530 to £29,114 a year Pro rata per annum
