Medical Secretary - Surgical Division (Band 3)

We are looking for a current secretary, or an aspiring secretary, to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in secretarial work, and /or to gain further experience in the Surgical Division (mainly based in Colorectal/General Surgery but the post holder will be required to work across Breast, Vascular, Gastroenterology and Urology as required).

The post holder will be required to support the administration service predominantly within the Surgical Administration Team, with the flexibility to cover across the wider services where required if necessary. The post holder will be responsible for running a safe and quality administration service that supports the medical and nursing staff.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Administration Hub to provide a comprehensive administrative service to the clinical workforce. To support the Team Leader and Surgical Admin Manager in the day to day running of a specialty administration team.

This role will require someone with excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation of workload skills in order to manage the busy environment and various tasks that require timely completion and ensure quality care is delivered to our patients. An ability to work within a team and create a positive working environment is key to what we are looking for, as well as a hardworking and passionate individual who is keen to work within the rewarding organisation of the NHS and adheres to our right care values.

In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance 'Understanding the new NHS' (details of which can be found in the links section of NHS Jobs).

Qualifications
  • RSA/OCR level 2 word/text processing or equivalent experience
Experience
  • Administration/office experience supporting senior management functions i.e. diary management, electronic filing systems, meeting preparation, minute taking, collating and presenting information etc.
  • Previous NHS experience
Knowledge
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Software or equivalent administrative programs.
  • Bighand or other Audio Typing Software
  • SystmOne or other electronic health systems
