Job description

Job Title: Medical Secretary (Urology Department)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We serve a population of over 1.15 million in our local area, extending to 2.2 million when including regional and national services.

The shift pattern for this position is negotiable.

Role Responsibilities:
  1. Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a Consultant(s) and their team(s).
  2. Act as a focal point for assistance and advice to staff, patients, and professionals regarding service inquiries, and coordinate patient pathways.
  3. Exercise initiative and resourcefulness while maintaining confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact.
  4. Prioritize and schedule workload to meet NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and Scottish Government targets.
  5. Assist in organizing and prioritizing the Consultant(s)' administrative tasks for effective planning, including managing cancellations and resource allocation.
  6. Take ownership of responsibilities, understanding the scope and impact of your role.
  7. Complete statutory/mandatory training and collaborate with line managers to develop your skills aligned with personal and service objectives.
Required Skills and Experience:

This role involves specialized medical secretarial support for inpatient and outpatient clinical care. A good understanding of Board/Departmental policies and procedures is essential, along with excellent communication skills to ensure accurate and timely information transfer. Experience with NHS systems, including Trak and Clinical Portal, is required. Experience with waiting list management is desirable.
