Overview

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small team of busy friendly secretaries at Linden Hall Surgery. As a medical secretary, you will display a high level of motivation and enthusiasm to provide administrative support to the Partners and clinical staff of Linden Hall Surgery. This position would suit a Medical Secretary with experience, but training can be provided.

We are a busy Surgery covering a population of about 15,500 patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the incoming paper and digital correspondence from hospitals and specialists.
  • Audio- and copy- typing, NHS email and ICG system to write outgoing letters and referrals for our GPs and clinicians.
  • Telephone contact with patients and specialist hospital departments to answer queries, and update referral status.
  • Managing post incoming and outgoing paper post.
  • Supporting queries from the Practice team, working closely with GPs.
  • Filing and retrieving medical notes.
  • Photocopying.
  • Ordering and monitoring stationary stocks and supplies.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Good basic level of education with minimum grade C in GCSE maths and English.

Desirable

  • Further administration qualifications such as audio-typing, medical terminology, or other Medical Secretary qualifications.
Experience

Essential

  • Previous administration or secretarial experience in an NHS setting.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Excellent IT skills (particularly email and Word).
  • Excellent customer service and patient-focus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with team colleagues and other professionals.
  • Excellent personal organisation and time-management skills.

Desirable

  • Recent experience working as secretary in a GP Practice.
  • Experience using ICG system.
  • Experience using e-Referral System.
