Job description

We are seeking to recruit for an experienced Medical Secretary who has a passion for high quality customer care to work within the Taunton & West Somerset Older Persons Mental Health Department. This is a part time role working 22.5 hours per week.You'll provide comprehensive med sec support to the current med sec team, older persons mental health team, memory assessment service, consultants, associate specialists, and other allied health professionals. We are looking for someone who can use their own initiative, work well with other people, be able to work on their own as well as being able to approach others for support. The right candidate will have excellent IT and typing skills.If you think that you are the right person for the job, we would love to hear from you.Please be aware this role will be a mix of home working, and working from offices in Taunton, Pyrland Ward and Barnfield in Minehead.

Main duties of the job

Communicate with patients, colleagues, internal and externalDeal with day to day correspondence,Receive telephone calls, accepting messages on behalf of members of the specialty team, taking appropriate action where necessaryPrioritise own work efficiently and effectively, highlighting any issues to the Band 5 Operational Admin Lead.Type all forms of clinical correspondence as dictated by medical staff, by use of audio or copy typing.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education
  • Must be able to communicate in English Language, both written and verbally appropriate to the post
  • RSA/OCR III WP/Typing or equivalent
  • AMSPAR or British Medical Secretary Diploma (includes medical terminology) or alternative experience
  • ECDL, CLAIT or equivalent
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate substantial experience in a secretarial or administrative role
  • Medical audio typing / or ability to take dictation
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive and distressing issues.
  • Experience of dealing with multi-disciplinary teams and external agencies.
  • Previous experience working in the NHS or mental health setting.
Additional Criteria
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Willingness to use technology to improve standards of care and support to our patients
