Spire Methley Park Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to join our team and support our Consultants in providing high-quality service.

As a Medical Secretary, your main tasks will include:

  • Providing a full medical secretarial service to Consultants.
  • Typing clinic notes and letters to GPs and external agencies, meeting deadlines (48-72 hours).
  • Answering patient queries with tact and diplomacy.
  • Liaising with Consultants and secretaries to resolve patient queries/complaints promptly.
  • Managing all correspondence, calls, and queries for at least six Consultants with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicating effectively with GPs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Providing copy clinic letters as needed.
  • Opening and distributing Consultants' mail.
  • Typing discharge summaries and operation notes dictated by Consultants.
  • Logging and distributing incoming clinic, theatre, insurance, and DWP forms.
  • Ordering stationery and supplies for Consultants.
  • Collaborating with Outpatient Department, Medical Records, NHS Team, and other hospital departments.
  • Assisting in training new and trainee Medical Secretaries.
  • Completing mandatory training (fire, health and safety, etc.).
  • Ensuring service continuity during absences by providing cover for private typing.
  • Contributing to departmental procedures development.
  • Familiarizing with company policies and procedures.
  • Delivering excellent customer service to all users.
  • Performing any other reasonable duties as directed by the Senior Medical Secretary.

Qualifications, Training & Experience:

  • Good educational background.
  • Professional telephone manner.
  • Knowledge of medical, anatomical, and physiological terminology.
  • Proficiency with IT systems.
  • RSA Level II or equivalent qualification.
