An exciting development opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced medical secretary within our Children & Young People's Directorate at St Mary's Hospital, WLCH.

The Children & Young People's Service is a dynamic and rapidly growing service, which requires an individual who can demonstrate excellent administrative and secretarial skills.

The candidate will be expected to have previous medical secretarial experience, including proficient typing skills, good communication skills, minute taking and the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload.

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to learning and progression within the Children's Services.

Main duties of the job

Provide secretarial assistance to a designated unit or team ensuring the provision of an efficient and reliable service. Communicate effectively with patients / carers regarding appointment and treatment related matters.

Expected to work independently and manage and prioritise their workload, liaising closely with the wider administration team within the department.

Education/ Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Good standard of secondary education; GCSE at Grade C or above or equivalent
  • Formal Customer Care Training or willingness to undertake AMSPAR or equivalent experience
Experience
  • Proven experience of a range of secretarial procedures
  • Proven experience of dealing with patients appointment and booking system
  • Experience of generating own correspondence
  • Experience of having working relationships with clinicians, GPs, managers, consultants and other clinical staff.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of hospital Patient Administration System (CERNER)
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
  • Good keyboard and IT skills - proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to input and retrieve data accurately on a computerised system
  • Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative
