MEDICAL RETINA FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for the Medical Retina Fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, starting February 2026 for a duration of 12 months.

Candidates should be post-CCT or equivalent and wish to specialise in Medical Retina. This post is suitable for doctors who have completed their training and are seeking experience in medical retina prior to obtaining a consultant appointment. Please note, this is not an approved training post.

Applicants unable to work full-time for personal reasons may be considered, with job modifications discussed on a personal basis in consultation with supervisor(s). Suitable qualified job-share candidates will also be considered.

Oxford Eye Hospital is one of the few UK eye units approved by the GMC to provide direct sponsorship for fast-track visa applications (GMC Sponsorship List).

The hospital has an active research portfolio, and participation in research, including writing up clinical studies and case reports, is encouraged. Fellows will have opportunities to access cataract surgery during weekend lists, although there are no weekday theatre allocations for this fellowship. There are also opportunities to participate in trainee and medical student teaching.

The fellowship offers broad exposure to medical retina, including tertiary and quaternary referrals of complex cases. Fellows are expected to contribute to emergency eye department and on-call duties as part of their training.
