Certified Coder - 100% On-Site - Full Time

The Certified Coder is a key member of Dover Behavioral Health System responsible for ensuring the completion of all coding activities, managing correspondence related to patients' health records, and maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of patient information.

Dover Behavioral Health System is a 104-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in Dover, Delaware. It features units for adolescents and adults, offering inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Annually, over 10,000 patients receive care from our dedicated healthcare team. We are recognized for high patient satisfaction, ranking 6th in 2020 among over 200 psychiatric hospitals, thanks to our talented staff. We excel in our field!

What does a Coder at Dover Behavioral Health do?
  • Ensure high accuracy in analyzing and coding medical records in a timely manner.
  • Review patient charts for correct ICD-10 codes and enter diagnoses into the billing system; communicate with physicians to correct documentation issues.
  • Collaborate with the Business Office and Utilization Review teams, providing information on medical records and educating staff on coding updates.
  • Participate in quarterly Medicare audits and aim for a compliance rate of 95% or above.
  • Print dictated reports and retrieve discharge charts daily (excluding weekends and holidays).
Qualifications
Minimum:
  • High School Diploma
  • Certified medical records coder (or working towards certification)
  • At least one year of experience coding ICD-10
Preferred:
  • Associate's Degree is preferred
