A local medical practice is seeking a Medical Receptionist / Secretary to join their friendly team. The ideal candidate will manage the reception desk, assist patients, book appointments, and support the healthcare staff. Experience in a health profession and a good standard of education are essential. This position offers a supportive environment in a busy practice located near Leigh town centre.

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, patient focused General Practice, due to a member of staff leaving to pursue a new career opportunity. We are based in two purpose built medical premises both situated close to Leigh town centre, and easy access for public transport, car parking facilities available at no cost. We have 7000 patient list size, and are fully electronic with patient records. We are looking to seek an enthusiastic individual to come and join our friendly team which consists of 2 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 4 GP Registrar's, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Healthcare Assistant, 1 Practice Manager, 2 Assistant Practice Manager's (1 for each site), and 8 medical receptionists (Care Navigators). We are a designated GP Training Practice for GP Registrar's and we also teach Medical Students from Manchester Medical School. We are a high QOF (Quality & Outcome Framework) achieving Practice, and majority of our staff have been with us for many years.
Working on a busy reception desk, dealing with patients, booking appointments, answering telephone calls, actioning repeat prescriptions, processing incoming and outgoing mail, assisting GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice Manager(s) with day to day admin duties. Dr AB Weerasekara & Dr S Weerasekara are our GP Directors, we have 2 salaried GPs - Dr A Cordwell and Dr S Safdar, and 4 GP Registrar's who are on a GP rotation so these change 6 monthly or 12 monthly according to their rota. We have 2 Practice Nurses Hayley Ronayne and Melissa Agbonlahor, our Healthcare Assistant is Bethan Entwistle, our Practice Manager is Michelle Farrell, and supported by Stacey Gregory and Jennifer Meredith (Assistant Practice Manager's) one at each site, we have Sue Burke, Pam Pendlebury, Lyndsey Monks, Aly Brownlee and Laura Hemsley who work on our main reception desks at both sites, supported by Stacey and Jennifer. We are a friendly and helpful team and the benefits of working in our Practice will include automatic opting into the NHS Pension scheme, we allow 5 weeks of annual leave per year including paid bank holidays, our normal working week is currently Monday to Friday 8am to 6.30pm (core hours), this may change in the future depending on the NHS 10 year forward plan.
Job Summary:
Tocarry out a variety of administrative tasks and you will be the first point ofcontact with patients, either on the telephone or in person, and you will berequired to respond in a helpful and friendly manner at all times.
Providegeneral assistance to the doctors and the Practice Team.
Responsiblefor the smooth running of the Practice reception.
Providesecretarial support to the Doctors, Practice Nurses and Practice Manager(s).
Update patientnotes summaries and read code appropriate diagnosis from hospital letters asindicated by the Doctor, ANP or Practice Nurse.
To carry outmonthly computer searches to assist Practice Manager with claims
To assist withfinancial transactions for private certificates, completion of insurance claimforms, undertaking of private HGV Medical examinations etc.
Job Responsibilities
Reception
Receive,assist and direct patients arriving at the Practice
Handingcompleted repeat prescriptions to patients and checking names andaddresses
Make andcancel appointment requests either by telephone or in person
Deal withhome visit requests
Answertelephone, assist with queries and take messages wherever necessary
Liaisewith other healthcare Professionals (such as District Nurses, HealthVisitors, Midwives etc)
Organisehospital transport for emergency admissions at the request of the Doctor
Contactpatients where necessary
ClearDoctors desk after each session and follow up any requests by doctor
Informpatients of pathology and hospital results if requested by Doctor orPractice Nurse
Useinitiative to deal with ad hoc situations that arise in reception
Ensurereception and working areas are kept tidy
Administration
To have athorough knowledge of all practice procedures
To workin accordance of written protocols
Scanning& filing correspondence into computer medical records
Typereferral letters to Hospital Consultants at request of GPs
Bookappointments for patients using ERS (Electronic Referral Service)
Photocopyas requested
Open& distribute incoming mail
Ensureoutgoing mail is taken to the local Post Box daily
Processrepeat prescription requests in accordance with the Practice guidelines,including processing of electronic prescriptions
Pullingof / filing of patient notes if necessary
Ensurecompletion of patient details on pathology request forms and samplecontainers
Registernew patients on the clinical system
Processremoval of patients from the Practice on a daily basis
Ensurepatients change of address / telephone numbers are amended onto computerand written notes in a timely manner (have knowledge of the PracticeBoundary)
Other Tasks
Ensurebuilding security have thorough knowledge of doors / windows/ alarm etc
Any othertasks allocated by Practice Manager that may be agreed from time to time
