The role involves being the first point of contact for patients, managing appointments, handling enquiries, and supporting the smooth running of the practice.

Key Responsibilities:Reception Duties:Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.
Answer telephone calls promptly, deal with enquiries, and redirect calls as appropriate.
Make, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments using the clinical system (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne, Vision).
Ensure the reception area is tidy and welcoming at all times.
Register new patients and process necessary paperwork.
Explain practice procedures and services to new and existing patients.
Handle requests for home visits, repeat prescriptions, and test results.
Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times, in line with GDPR and NHS policies.
Input and update patient information on the clinical system accurately.
Process incoming and outgoing mail, including scanning documents into patient records.
Assist in maintaining stocks of forms and other stationery.
Support the practice team with administrative duties as required.
Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, other reception staff, and management.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Provide cover for colleagues during absences, holidays, or busy periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong IT and data entry skills; experience with GP clinical systems desirable.
Ability to multitask, prioritise workload, and remain calm under pressure.
Friendly, empathetic, and patient-focused approach.
High level of discretion and confidentiality.
Previous experience in a receptionist or customer service role (healthcare experience preferred).
Good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent).
Familiarity with NHS procedures and medical terminology is an advantage.
DBS clearance may be required.
Based in a busy GP practice environment.
May involve occasional Saturday or evening shifts.
