Job description

Overview

Responsible for greeting patients, answering the telephone, scanning pertinent patient data into the electronic medical record, checking patients in and out, verifying patient insurance and referrals, and scheduling appointments for Maternal Fetal Medicine, OB Generalist, and Uro-gynecology office.

Responsibilities
  1. Greet and arrive patients in a courteous and timely manner.
  2. Check-in and check-out patients, obtain referrals when appropriate, schedule outside appointments with specialists when requested, and handle hospital consults.
  3. Register existing and new patients, verify demographics and insurance, determine insurance copays, and collect money and copays to send to the Medical Group, posting all payments collected into IDX.
  4. Answer incoming calls and handle them by transferring or entering a message in the EHR when appropriate.
  5. Complete intake sheet on new patients.
  6. Check out patients and schedule follow-up appointments.
  7. Schedule/reschedule clinic and ancillary testing appointments.
  8. Responsible for working/maintaining task list in the electronic medical record and assist with reports as needed.
  9. Call patients for bumped appointments.
  10. Obtain authorizations and referrals from physician’s offices.
  11. Verify patient information for accuracy.
  12. Scan patient data into EMR daily.
  13. Ensure compliance with Policies and Procedures within the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine, OB/GYN, and EVMS Policies and Procedures.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned, related to front office and administrative duties according to the individual departmental needs.
Qualifications

Prior office/clerical experience required. Experience performing related functions in a medical practice is preferred. Previous front desk customer service experience will be considered. Professional, customer service-oriented individual is required.
