Thursby Surgery is looking to expand it's team so we are looking for two Medical Receptionists to join our Thursby Surgery and our new Branch Surgery, Daneshouse.
The roles are for 25 hours per week over 5 days (Monday - Friday) on a shift pattern of alternatate earlies (07.45am - 12.45) and lates (13.30 -18.30)
Main duties of the job
We are looking for two enthusiastic, hard working, motivated and pro active individuals to join our ever growing Practice.
The successful candidates will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate services or healthcare professional in a courteous & efficient manner.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

ThursbySurgery is based on two sites approximately 1 mile apart and our clinical teamcurrently includes GPs, Advanced Nurses Practitioners, a Practice Pharmacy Technician, Practice Paramedic, Practice Nurses, Nurse Degree Apprentices, GPS's, Trainee Nurse Associate and Phlebotomists. There isa strong team atmosphere and a focus on continuous development throughout thesurgery.

Job responsibilities
Reception Duties
- Implement office procedures and workin accordance with written protocols
- Receive patients, consult with membersof practice team
- Process appointment requests forappointments from patients by telephone and in person.
- Use EMIS Web Clinical System toprocess requests for appointments and visits
- Act as a care navigator in directingcallers to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Use own judgment, practice systems andcommunication skills to ensure that patients who need urgent consultationare seen according to need.
- Enter requests for home visitsensuring to carefully record all relevant details and referring to duty doctorwhere necessary.
- Deal with general enquiries, explainprocedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
- Receive and make telephone calls asrequired. Divert calls and takemessages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
- Handle completed repeat prescriptionsto patient and checking names and address.
- Registrations of new patientscomputer data entry and medical records.
- Explain practice arrangements andformal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover inaccordance with Practice policy and procedures.
- Process patients changes of addresscomputer data and medical records
- Advise patients of relevant chargesfor private (non GMS) services, accept payment and issue receipts.
- Ensure a working knowledge of telephonesystem during and after hours
- Respondto all requests and queries from patients, team members and associatedhealthcare agencies
- Ensure building security havethorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm
- Input and extract patient informationto and from the EMIS Web Clinical System as required.
- Take messages and pass on informationin a timely and appropriate manner
- Action requests for repeatprescriptions and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patientwithin 48 hours.
- Scan and photocopy as required
- Have working knowledge oftelephone system, during and afterhours
- Process and distribute incoming andoutgoing mail
- File and retrieve paperwork update asnecessary
- Clear and re-stock consulting rooms asrequired
- Keep the reception area, notice-boardsand leaflet dispensers updated, tidy and free from obstructions andclutter
- Inform line manager of low stocklevels i.e. stationary or other supplies
- Be able to cover all receptionpositions as necessary to meet the needs of the practice
- Complete administrative tasks asrequested, including requirements of Clinical Coding, management ofmedication documentation and processing, secretarial duties and support ofprivate work functions for which developed appropriate training will beprovided.

- A staff rota is developed in advanceand this may include early starts (7am), late finishes (8pm) and/orSaturday mornings over both sites.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Good standard of general education
- GCSE Mathematics and English (Grade C and above)
Experience
- Practical experience of working with others
- Practical experience of working with the general public or patients in a customer care role
- Experience of work in a healthcare setting.
Skills
- Computer literate, use of Microsoft packages, email and the internet.
