Job description

Kearsley Medical Centre are seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and flexible individual with excellent customer service skills to join our Patient Access Team for 23 hours per week.

The successful candidate will join 12 other Medical Receptionists and will be provided with a structured in-house training programme, along with pay aligning with the Agenda for Change pay scale and NHS Pension Scheme.

The required hours for the role are:

Monday 8am - 6pm, Wednesday 11am - 6:30pm, and Friday 12pm - 6:30pm.

Main duties of the job

Medical Receptionists receive, assist, and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective way.

You will provide general assistance to the wider practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, either in person or over the telephone.

Kearsley Medical Centre is based in South Bolton, close to the A666, and provides care to approximately 13,500 patients. We are a training practice supporting trainee clinicians and our employed staff in their career development.

We have a friendly team of over 40 members who work collaboratively to deliver the best care to our community.

Job responsibilities

The main responsibilities include:

  • Providing an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors
  • Managing appointment systems and monitoring patient flow
  • Handling general enquiries, explaining procedures, and making appointments in line with our Total Triage system
  • Familiarity with all appointment systems
  • Monitoring and reporting issues with the computer system
  • Registering new patients promptly and accurately
  • Ensuring accurate data entry and computer security
  • Handling telephone calls, messages, and referrals
  • Processing home visit requests and repeat prescriptions
  • Managing private service charges and receipts
  • Using office equipment and maintaining a tidy reception area
  • Ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information
  • Adhering to health and safety policies and infection control procedures
  • Supporting equality and diversity initiatives
  • Participating in training and personal development activities
  • Contributing to quality improvement and team effectiveness
  • Communicating effectively with team members, patients, and carers
  • Participating in service audits and policy implementation

Salary: £12.51 to £13.60 per hour, AfC Band 2, progressing to Band 3.
