Purpose of Position

MLT - Under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, plans, sets up, carries out and evaluates diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures. Performs phlebotomy duties.

MT - Plan, set-up and carry out a wide variety of diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures in conformance with physician's orders and established operating procedures. Follow appropriate procedures to be used and evaluate results obtained.

Description
MLT Responsibilities:
  • Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of laboratory activity.
  • Maintains proficiency and performs diagnostic tests in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical, microscopy, and bacteriology.
  • Carries out and initiates follow-up of organic and inorganic diagnostic tests.
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients as required.
  • Packages specimens with pertinent information and arranges for delivery to reference laboratories.
  • Prioritizes requests according to need and condition.
  • Records and checks results of tests, ensures prompt and accurate reporting to physicians and nursing units.
  • Ensures proper reporting of charges and billing information.
  • Completes proficiency surveys and maintains equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in clinical laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Must wear facility-provided identification badge at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MT Responsibilities:
  • Must be courteous and professional to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and staff.
  • Responsible for assigned laboratory areas.
  • Maintains proficiency and performs diagnostic tests across various laboratory sections.
  • Performs blood draws and handles specimens appropriately.
  • Records, files, and communicates results promptly and confidentially.
  • Ensures quality control and calibration of equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance and ensures supplies are available.
  • Keeps up-to-date with new laboratory procedures and technologies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assists in training and orientation of new personnel and students.
  • Must wear facility identification badge.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MLT (FHS9B)
  • Associate’s degree in science from an accredited institution and completion of an approved medical technician internship program.
  • ASCP eligible.
  • Computer skills preferred.
MT (Grade FHP10BM)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved internship.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification required within six months of hire; HEW certification acceptable.
  • Computer skills preferred.
Schedule Details

TEMP (up to 5 months), 80 hours per pay period (40 hrs/week), rotating nights 11 pm-7 am, with occasional coverage from 3 pm-11 pm, including weekends and holidays.
