Integrated Care System is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant-Specimen Reception to join its team. The role involves preparing analytical work and processing clinical samples in the Blood Sciences Department. Ideal candidates will have A-level qualifications and experience in laboratory environments, working primarily night shifts on a flexible rota.
Band 2 - Medical Laboratory Asst-Specimen Reception (Part-time 18.75 h/w)
The purpose of this job is to assist in the preparation of analytical work for the Blood Sciences Department across various scientific disciplines and to process Biofire PCR panels under the supervision of the specimen reception manager and registered biomedical scientists. The role requires communication with pathology staff, hospital staff, porters, drivers, and couriers.
The post holder will mainly work night shifts, 9 hours per night, including weekends. This is on a shift rota of 2 nights out of 8.
Assist in departmental work as instructed, following SOPs under the supervision of laboratory managers, team leaders, and Biomedical Scientist staff. Receive a wide range of clinical samples from hospital staff, clinic staff, and transport services. Assess samples for urgency, sort by discipline, and ensure sample details match request forms. Assign a unique laboratory number to each sample and form, requiring accuracy and attention to detail.
