Medical Laboratory Assistant Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Immunology Team within Clinical Pathology. This is a part-time position offering 15 hours per week. Please do not apply if you require more hours.

The department provides a comprehensive range of analytical, diagnostic, interpretative, and consultative services to hospitals, clinics, and GP practices.

Your responsibilities will include performing basic laboratory tasks essential for the smooth operation of the department, supporting high-quality diagnostic services. The lab operates Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

The ideal candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, demonstrate excellent teamwork abilities, and maintain high levels of concentration and attention to detail. The role involves occasional lifting, carrying, and walking. You should be organized, flexible, and capable of managing your workload under pressure, with good communication and keyboard skills. Full in-service training will be provided.

Key duties include:

1. Sample management and tracking
2. Stock management and housekeeping tasks
3. Handling telephone queries and setting up assays
4. Monitoring referral results and requesting tests
5. Sample reception, labelling, and storage
6. Using IT systems for sample referral and data entry
7. Following quality management and ISO standards
8. Assisting in training new staff
