HCA Healthcare UK is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support their Biochemistry department. The role involves processing microbiology samples, assisting biomedical scientists, and ensuring a clean laboratory environment. Site: HCA Laboratories - Shropshire House, 10a Capper St, London WC1E 6JA
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week. Monday – Friday and weekend work required.
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract-14 Months

We have a brilliant opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Biochemistry department at HCA Laboratories.
HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.
You will be in charge of processing clinical Microbiology samples including urines, swabs, sputa, faeces, fluids and fungal isolates onto culture media and preparing slides for microscopy. You will be processing serum samples for referral sites and for storage. Also to assist Biomedical Scientists in performing the analytical functions of the Laboratory.
This post requires working shifts as required and will involve rotating between immunology, Microbiology and Serology departments.
What you will do:
Receive samples for Immunology, Microbiology and Serology
Ensure correct samples are received for tests required and query and problems identified
Process blood/serum/plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, prepare aliquots for referral sites and for storage
Complete maintenance and disinfection/ cleaning routines
Loading and unloading Analysers
Set up defined diagnostic tests
Assist BMS’s in performing the analytical functions of the service
Stock control and unpacking deliveries
Machine maintenance.
