Overview

PAWS has been formed from the merger of Pathology Services at Salford Royal Hospital and Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh Hospitals. The post is based at Wigan, but you may be required to work at other sites.

Responsibilities

• Medical Laboratory Assistants in Specimen Reception are required to provide support to Blood Sciences and other departments in Pathology.
• Enter patient data into the laboratory IT system.
• Assist with the laboratory handling of most types of specimens and help with some analytical processes.
• Perform general clerical work.
• Main duty: entering patient data into the Pathology IT system.
• Daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintaining laboratory archive systems.
• General housekeeping tasks.
• Ability to lift heavy objects such as boxes and waste and to push trolleys.

Working pattern and requirements

You will be required to work late shifts, weekend shifts and nights on a rota basis.

Qualifications and attributes

• Conscientious and capable of careful and accurate work with excellent customer care and communication skills.
• Good and accurate data entry skills, with basic standards of numeracy and literacy.
• Previous laboratory experience may be an advantage but is not essential.
