Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient, analysing complex clinical signs, findings from physical examination, patient history, and investigation results to diagnose medical/surgical conditions.
Work autonomously in recognized situations and provide anesthetic care independently to appropriate patients and surgical cases, including obstetric patients.
Utilize professional judgment in managing complex and unpredictable care events and capture learning from these experiences to improve patient care and service delivery.
Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and MDT where required.
Use advanced communication skills to impart sensitive, complex, and potentially distressing information to patients and carers.
Provide accurate and effective clinical handovers across all professional boundaries.
Make and receive patient referrals to/from other medical specialties, healthcare professionals, or agencies, ensuring accurate written and verbal communication.
Perform solo transfers of patients both intra- and inter-hospital where applicable.
Document in medical notes, including history, clinical findings, physical examination, interpretation, plan of care, and treatment provided.
Review critical care patients and formulate/discuss plans on Consultant ward rounds.
Support discharge planning processes and communicate with receiving areas/teams.
Recognize own limitations and seek appropriate help from multiagency and interprofessional resources.
Maintain patient confidentiality and discern when confidential information should be shared for safe healthcare practice.
