Job Description

Please note this a permanent full time position, working Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00. Working an occasional Saturday.

As a Medical Lab Assistant, you will prepare samples for analysis using the current laboratory protocol, to assist Associate Practitioners in maintenance and preparation of equipment.

You will also help maintain adequate levels of reagents and consumables, laboratory cleaning duties and disposing of waste.

  • To receive patient samples.
  • Sort and identify specimens received.
  • Assist in areas of Quality Management as necessary.
  • Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer system.
  • Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
  • Work within the departmental good laboratory practice, health and safety policy and code of conduct and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Maintain laboratory and ensure workbenches are clean and tidy.
  • Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other biological material or hazardous chemicals.
  • Prepare referral samples for external laboratory analysis.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE/A level or equivalent.
  • Computer literate
  • Able to communicate and work within a team.
  • Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations.
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Attention to detail
