Job description

Position Summary

Performs moderately complex general laboratory testing in the area(s) of licensure under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure high-quality results within specified timeframes.
  2. Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
  3. Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  4. Demonstrates proficiency with computer systems, including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
  5. Ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
  6. Communicates critical results to the patient caregiver.
  7. Regularly reports unusual findings and work activities to the supervisor or oncoming technologist.
  8. Maintains punctual attendance and complies with all relevant policies and standards.
  9. Assumes responsibilities such as supply/reagent ordering, minor instrumentation operation, projects, or training under supervision.
  10. Performs specimen collection, receiving, and processing as required.
  11. Answers phone calls and greets guests professionally.
  12. Maintains current knowledge to instruct students or personnel effectively.
  13. Participates actively in the laboratory quality improvement program, including performance evaluation of key indicators.
  14. Follows policies to meet regulatory and accreditation standards.
  15. Practices infection control and safety, maintaining a clean, organized work area.
  16. Maintains confidentiality of patient and departmental information.
  17. Performs other duties as directed by the supervisor or team leader.
Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technician or an associate degree in a related field.

Licensure/Certification: Current license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician with ASCP.
