Job summary

St John Ambulance is seeking a skilled engineer to maintain and commission medical devices and ambulance gas systems. You will perform inspection, testing, calibration and repair to ensure safety, compliance and operational readiness across frontline services.

The role requires hands-on maintenance experience, ability to work independently, and precise record-keeping. A Level 3 engineering qualification and a valid UK driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in electrical, electronic, mechanical, clinical or medical engineering (or equivalent).
• Hands-on maintenance, testing, diagnosing and repair of medical devices.
• Ability to work independently following manuals and procedures.
• Experience using asset management systems and keeping auditable records.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, repair and calibrate medical devices to keep them safe and compliant.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and verification per manufacturer guidance and regulations.
• Support certification of ambulance medical gas systems where qualified.
• Complete acceptance and release-to-service checks for new or refurbished equipment.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation for compliance and audit.
• Support safety investigations and uphold quality standards.
