Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and a good work ethic. A sound engineering background is essential for the role. The role is a permanent position working within the Medical Devices Team with an expectation of mobile and workshop working. C1/D1 driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine maintenance on medical equipment, service, repair, maintenance and calibration of a range of mechanical/electronic medical equipment.
  • Commissioning and decommissioning equipment as required. Responsible for updating the Fleet & Equipment database with the movement of equipment. Assist Medical Equipment Engineers to provide a high quality service.
  • The role is primarily based around the maintenance of mechanical medical devices ranging from Oxygen Equipment, Flow meters and Pipelines, Ventilators, Entonox Delivery Systems, Suction devices, Stretchers, Carry Chairs and general Lifting and Handling Equipment.
  • Liaise with external organisations relating to the supply of parts, new equipment and technical support.
  • Identification and rectification of routine faults on a range of electrical medical equipment.
  • Escalating and communicating complex technical issues to Ambulance Equipment Technicians.
  • Routine servicing, maintenance and calibration of all medical equipment.
  • Creation, completion and maintenance of routine records relevant to all equipment held and all work done.
  • Assist in maintenance and ordering of a stock of spares to enable minimal delay in affecting repairs to equipment and down time of ambulances.
  • Assist with audits and surveys as required.
  • Liaise with staff at all levels, explaining technical issues to others as required.
  • Liaise with the communications centre about faults and the availability of vehicles to effect repairs.
  • The kitting of new vehicles and de-kitting of old vehicles.
  • The creation and maintenance of equipment inventories, asset tagging and allocating of all medical equipment.
  • Participate in field trials and the checking of all new medical equipment for functional suitability.
  • Participate in projects when required.
  • Assist with research, development and implementation of solutions relating to medical equipment.
  • Compliance with all manufacturers’ protocols and recommendations.
  • Adhere to all YAS protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in meetings and present suggestions which directly affect the implementation of policies and procedures within own work area.
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are reported in a timely and accurate manner, according to the Trust’s risk management procedures.
  • Maintain a flexible attitude to work patterns, which may include working weekends and bank holidays.
  • Manual handling and lifting up to 15 kilos.
  • Professional mechanical and electronics skills/knowledge and skills acquired through manufacturers courses and experience.
  • Repair/maintain/install pre-hospital mechanical/electronic medical devices including Oxygen Pressure Regulators, Flow meters and Pipelines, Pneumatic Resuscitators/Ventilators, Entonox Delivery Systems, Suction devices, Stretchers, Carry Chairs and general Lifting and Handling Equipment.
Qualifications
  • BTEC National Certificate / City & Guilds in appropriate engineering discipline. Equivalent experience/qualifications will be considered.
  • Understanding of service processes and procedures.
  • Awareness of operational environments in which the equipment is used and the common faults that may develop.
  • IT literate.
