Job Summary
We are looking for a Medical Education Fellow to join our cohesive team, working in the Education Department and in clinical areas helping to improve the postgraduate and undergraduate education through a variety of teaching modalities. The Medical Education Fellow will be delivering education sessions ranging from curriculum based learning to adhoc teaching sessions, responding to individual's needs as required.
The role will allow for the opportunity to develop teaching skills, extend knowledge of educational theory and undertake educational research. It will suit an individual who has an interest in medical education and educational research alongside their clinical commitments.
The level will be CT1/2+/ST3 or equivalent. The Medical Education Fellow, as well as being responsible to the DME, will have an Education Supervisor to help with career progression. The post holder will also be supported by a dedicated team of Medical Education Officers.

We will encourage you to undertake and will fund a PGcert offered by a local HEI. You will have a study leave budget of £800, which will allow you to attend courses in your specialty.
Main Duties of the Job
- Working in collaboration across the educational pathway to support the wide variety of learners within medical education.
- Conducting and leading structured educational sessions.
- Continually maintaining and developing own professional knowledge and expertise in line with the needs of the Trust, GMC, and other professional bodies.
- Supporting the development of the annual work plan in relation to medical education.
- Designing and delivering educational programmes across clinical education, ensuring that organisational requirements are met.
- Planning, designing and delivering education at all levels, using both formal training delivery and workplace-based approaches.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of adult learning methodologies and actively engaging with education research.
- Maintaining current active professional registration.
- Acting always in accordance with their professional Code of Conduct and guiding documents.
- Adhering to Trust Policy and Procedure.
- Encouraging new practice in others while embracing new technologies e.g., e-learning.
- Supporting Nurse and AHP training where appropriate.
- Facilitating MDT learning opportunities.
- Supporting the Simulation Lead and Human Factors & Simulation Specialist Lead with training for the Trust.
- Participating in the Medical Education and Simulation Working Group meetings and undertaking projects tasked from this group.
Education and Development Responsibilities:
- Developing personal skills in education including:
- An understanding of adult educational theories.
- Knowledge of educational theory and undertaking educational research.
- Assessment and evaluation methodology.
- Knowledge of human factors and crisis resource management.
- Participating in the development and teaching of new and existing teaching courses for postgraduate and undergraduate trainees.
- Undertaking evaluation of courses and teaching delivered to ensure that trainees' needs are continually met.
- Undertaking research in medical education and aiming to present findings at local, national, and international meetings.
- Assisting in the completion of work-based assessments for trainees.
- Participating in medical education committee meetings.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Appropriate professional postgraduate qualification e.g., MRCP, MRCS.
- Full GMC Registration and License to Practice at the time of appointment.
- ALS.
- Eligible for CT1.
