A leading hospice in Scarborough seeks a Medical Director to spearhead palliative care efforts, ensuring excellence in clinical services. The role emphasizes collaboration, clinical governance, and training, aiming to improve care delivery across the region. Candidates should have extensive experience in palliative medicine and leadership skills.
The post holder will have overall responsibility for all medical services, ensuring the delivery of the highest quality medical care and support to patient, their families and carers.
Be responsible for the medical care of patients in all Hospice and designated settings.
As Medical Director to lead, deliver, set quality standards and be responsible for all medical matters including the supervision and revalidation of all medical staff.
To provide clinical leadership and specialist palliative medicine support to Saint Catherine’s Hospice and the community
To promote a culture of continuous improvement and integrate clinical governance within practice
To actively participate in the clinical governance structures at the hospice
To actively participate and lead in current and future audit and research projects. Commercial and other research projects take place in the hospice and are encouraged with good links to the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre in Hull.
To participate in training and education
Teaching of HYMS (Hull and York Medical School) medical students in different clinical settings
To provide education, supervision and training for junior medical staff working at Saint Catherine’s Hospice
To provide teaching, clinical supervision and support to the hospice 1st on-call doctors and ACPs
To work across the interface with primary care and to undertake domiciliary visits as required
To take an equal share in providing emergency cover and cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
To participate in a regional second on-call rota (see below).
To maintain his/her own continuing medical education according to the guidelines of the Royal College of Physicians
To contribute to the planning and development of specialist palliative care services to meet the needs of the patient population of SWR area. This will require working in an integrated way with all those delivering palliative care to ensure a seamless service
To observe Saint Catherine’s Hospice’s agreed policies and procedures.
To follow national employment law and local personnel policies and procedures.
To ensure there are adequate contact arrangements for relevant staff to contact them when on call.
To help deliver the redeveloped hospice palliative care education programme.

We are the sole provider of community and hospice in-patient specialist palliative care services in our area and have an established reputation as an independent hospice. We also have excellent links with the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre in Hull.
