A community benefit society in Farnborough seeks a Medical Director to provide leadership and manage clinical governance for their urgent care services. Candidates must be GMC registered with extensive experience in urgent and primary care. Job summary
Due to internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join North Hampshire Urgent Care (NHUC) as Medical Director, a key executive leadership role in a forward-thinking, values-driven organisation delivering high-quality urgent and primary care services across our region.

Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a GMC-registered General Practitioner (on the performers list) with substantial experience in both urgent and primary care, who brings both credibility and compassion to clinical leadership. The Medical Director will provide visible, strategic, and inclusive leadership to our employed and self-employed clinicians, working closely with our Director of Nursing and Quality to co-lead clinical governance, patient safety, and service quality.
As a full member of the Management Council (Board), you will help shape our direction and strategy, lead our Clinical Governance Framework, and represent NHUC within the broader NHS system. You will also act as Caldicott Guardian, Safeguarding GP Lead, and be a core part of contract, quality, and partnership discussions. Your leadership will help ensure that our services remain safe, effective, and responsive in a complex and evolving landscape.

To be an active member of NHUCs Management Council (Board) and to provide senior medical leadership across all NHUC Services. To undertake key legal roles such as Caldicott Guardian and GP Safeguarding lead. To represent NHUC at system and partnership clinical meetings and to role model NHUCs values at all times.
It is a requirement that the Medical Director must be GMC registered and on the performers list. It is hoped that the incumbent will take the opportunity to work clinical shifts to retain an appreciation of the services offered and help shape that future growth.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will
Be a proactive member of the Management Council and the executive leadership team, supporting the CEO and other team members
Be NHUCs medical voice across both the systems that we work in and at integrated partnership board level when required.
Provide strong and effective medical leadership to our employed and self-employed GPs as well as our wider clinician body to ensure that NHUCs clinical strategy is viable and effectively implemented
Lead the management of clinical staff, in partnership with our Director of Nursing and ensure that they deliver safe and high-quality care to patients
Carry joint accountability with the Director of Nursing for implementation of NHUCs Clinical Governance Strategy
Along with the Director of Nursing take responsibility for clinical risk management and report to the Chief Executive on all relevant matters
Ensure that NHUC delivers all its clinical targets
Act as the NHUC Caldicott Guardian and NHUCs GP Safeguarding lead as well as to take the lead on NHUCs Controlled Drugs.
Work with The Director of Operations to implement new programs or areas of work and to lead projects as and when required
Key Responsibility Areas
External Relationships
Forge strong working relationships with the other Medical Directors across the system at ICS and ICP level
Represent NHUC in conjunction with the Director of Nursing at system clinical meetings
Be part of the NHUC team at contract review meetings and input to all contract and quality reports as required
Service Planning
Work closely with the Operational Managers and Head of Quality in the delivery of the clinical workforce plan which achieves compliance with regulations and professional guidance
Be an active member of the Operational team. Actively participate in the site operational meetings and ensure a full understanding of the financial and operational position.
To be a visible medical leader in both HIOW and Frimley ICSs as well as the HIOW IUC program

Ensuring that the performance of medical staff is conducive to the delivery of NHUCs clinical strategy and wider objectives and values
