Job description
The appointee, in collaboration with other Consultants, will be expected to fulfill the following duties within the agreed Job Plan:
- To provide a comprehensive Virology service, including full clinical liaison, to:
- Clinical services within Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
- General Practitioners and other healthcare providers in the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System.
- Other users of the Microbiology service as per Service Level Agreement.
To take a lead role in developing clinical liaison with specialist clinical teams to meet increasing demands, including participation in guideline formulation and review.Share in administrative duties associated with running a clinical laboratory.Participate in day-to-day Infection Control activities for NUH, support investigation and management of viral disease outbreaks, and liaise with local CCDCs.Involved in collecting and reviewing surveillance and epidemiological data with NUH Infection Prevention and Control Team and UKHSA.Actively pursue research in medical virology and epidemiology.Involved in training specialty trainees, FY2s, scientific, and senior scientist trainees.Pursue Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and participate in annual reviews and appraisals.Contribute to teaching microbiology to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Nottingham.Person specification
Training & Qualifications
- Full GMC registration, eligible for the Specialist Register or CCT in Microbiology (or expected within 6 months).
- Full/specialist registration with GMC (or eligible within six months).
- UK-trained applicants: CCT or within six months of award; non-UK trained: evidence of equivalence.
- Clinical Scientist: HCPC registration and PhD in relevant area.
- FRCPath in Virology or equivalent.
- Active CPD participation.

- Technical and clinical skills as described in the job description.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and health professionals.
- Experience in multidisciplinary infection teams.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
